The national government has activated a political and security containment operation to prevent an escalation of the police conflict in Rosario, where for several days, officers from the Santa Fe Provincial Police, along with retired officers and their families, have been holding a protest that included street blockades, a concentration of patrol vehicles, and slogans against the provincial administration. In parallel, the Ministry of Security ordered the reinforcement of federal forces in various areas of the province that are usually under local police control, in coordination with the Santa Fe management. The protest intensified as the hours went by. However, in the Casa Rosada, they sought to distance themselves from these statements and emphasized that the main objective is to defuse the protest and prevent a worsening of the situation. While negotiations continue, the national government maintains as a priority achieving a rapid solution that allows for the normalization of the Santa Fe Police's operations and prevents the conflict from leading to a scenario of greater institutional and security instability. What began as a concentration with about 20 police vehicles turned into a larger mobilization, with around 60 patrol cars, off-duty officers, sirens blaring, and partial traffic blockades. According to these preliminary assessments, no situations of tension were reported in other provinces at the moment. The conflict also led to political crossfire. National deputy Romina Diez, a leading figure of La Libertad Avanza in Santa Fe and close to Karina Milei, publicly criticized Pullaro for the management of provincial resources and held him responsible for the lack of responses from the security forces. The trigger for the conflict was the death of 32-year-old Sub-officer Oscar Valdez, who last week tried to take his own life in front of the headquarters of the Regional Unit II. The province assured that night patrols were not affected, although the Casa Rosada admits that during certain time slots there was a lower presence of patrol cars on the streets.
